Iranian Girl - Nazanin Afshin-Jam
Nazanin Afshin Jam.
People, bare with me... Nazanin Afshin Jam is an international human rights activist, Miss World Canada, a pilot, an actor and President and co-founder of “Stop Child Executions” organization.
Oh and she graduated with a double-major degree in International Relations and Political Science from the University of British Columbia with exchanges to the International study Center at Herstmonceux Castle in England and at l’Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris in France.
I could go on...but you got an idea of how ambitious this Iranian Girl is, right?
I have been a fan Nazanin Afshin Jam since 2005, when I heard she tried to save the life of a 17 year old namesake Nazanin Fatehi. Nazanin Fatehi was sentenced to death for killing a man in self defense as he and two other men attempted to rape her and her 15-year old niece in a park in Iran.
Nazanin Afshin Jam started an international campaign and petition to save her namesake’s life.
I followed the whole Save Nazanin Campaign. She worked so hard on the issue. The campagn got international media coverage. Ensuing public and government support led to more than 350,000 signatures being collected on the petition which was presented to the United Nations and Iranian government. With the pressure from the international community, in June 2006 the head of Judiciary in Iran ordered a new trial, and in January 2007 Nazanin Fatehi was released after Nazanin Afshin-Jam raised $43,000 on-line for bail while her lawyers worked on her case.
Crazy ha?
She had direct impact on saving somebodys life and she did so by sacrificing two years of her own life with hard work and her own blood sweat and tears...and she is still doing so! Check her facebook, she is tirelessly campagning, raising awareness and putting in real work. She could be doing a million other things, beeing that she is a pilot a double major degree graduate, a model and an actor. But in 2005 she chose to safe the life of a young girl who she had not even met before and five years later she is still fighting to save lifes of other young souls.
She is one of those heros we can all learn from.
She's gorgeous AND smart. Pretty AND works hard. An independent young Lady who knows what she wants.
Now for me, I have learned something from Nazanin.
She used a popular media plattform such as the Miss World competition to have a stronger platform to speak on human rights issues...
I dont do no modelling but I do walk into the music booth and use a particular artform to make my words heard...
Thank you Nazanin for giving a “voice for the voiceless".
